Revamped HR web platform enhancing usability and efficiency

The context

Saville Assessment are a leading workplace assessment provider. Their bespoke measurement tools are used by clients globally to transform their approach to assessments, by diving into the personal motives and talents of employees, and their interactions with the company’s workplace culture.

Saville Assessment aimed to revamp their digital platform to better serve both candidates and administrators. The existing platform was functional but outdated, lacking the user-friendly interface and intuitive design that users expect.

We began with a project to refresh the UX/UI design of the measurement questionnaires, which is a core part of their business offering. After a successful refresh we continued our collaboration to rehaul the design of the rest of the platform to enhance the user experience, streamline processes, and maintain their competitive edge in the market.

Need help rehauling your product?

We can help you rework the UX/UI of your business critical tool with the guidance of user research.

The problem

The platform was struggling with several critical issues:

  1. Outdated interface: The platform’s interface was not in line with contemporary UX/UI standards, leading to a clunky and cumbersome user experience.

  2. High support demand: The platform’s complexity required significant training and support for both candidates and administrators, diverting resources from strategic initiatives.

  3. User engagement issues: Candidates reported frustration with the platform's navigation and overall user experience, contributing to increased dropout rates during assessments.

  4. Competitor pressure: With newer, more agile competitors offering sleek and efficient platforms, Saville Assessment risked losing market share if these issues were not addressed.

The objective

Transform the platform into a modern, user-centric digital experience:

  1. Enhance user experience: Redesign the platform to be more intuitive and engaging, reducing the need for extensive training and support.

  2. Streamline processes: Simplify workflows for both candidates and administrators, making it easier to complete tasks and manage assessments.

  3. Increase engagement: Implement design changes that would keep candidates engaged throughout the assessment process, thereby reducing dropout rates.

  4. Future-proof the platform: Ensure that the new design could easily accommodate future updates and scalability needs.

The approach

  • Conducted stakeholder workshops to understand their pain points and gather insights into their vision for the new platform. These sessions helped us prioritise features and establish a clear vision for the redesign.

  • We conducted a thorough analysis of competitor platforms and industry leaders to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation. This benchmarking informed our design decisions, ensuring the platform would be competitive and aligned with industry best practices.

  • Using insights from stakeholder discussions and industry analysis, we developed wireframes and prototypes, progressing through multiple iterations. Each design iteration was reviewed and refined in collaboration with the product and technical team, ensuring the platform met both business and user needs.

  • Throughout the project, we worked closely with Saville Assessment’s development team to ensure the design was technically feasible and aligned with existing infrastructure. This collaborative approach facilitated a smooth handover from design to implementation, minimising development risks.

The result

The new platform recently went live, so we are anticipating the following results:

  • Improved customer NPS: Positive feedback in the improvement to the user experience.

  • Reduced support needs: Streamlined interface and improved workflows to reduce the demand for support and training.

  • Reduced dropout rates: A reduction in candidate dropout rates and a more efficient administration process, ultimately contributing to increased engagement for users.

We also are proud of the following outcomes:

  • 5* Clutch review.

  • Continued partnership: We have extended our partnership now working to refine and expand the platform with more features.

“This has been the first time we worked with a third party design partner, but DPP has set a high benchmark and we've been very impressed along the way.

The amount of knowledge that was picked up in a short amount of time was impressive and benefited designs. DPP has been very responsive and exceeded our expectations.”
